SOLDIER WALKS NAKED IN ELDORET

Amiddle-aged and heavily bearded man whose money was allegedly stolen stripped naked in Eldoret town’s Central Business District last week.
Trouble began when a waiter approached the man to clear his bill after daylong entertainment at a popular club only for the man to realise he had lost Sh10,000 in the bar. In anger, he stripped naked, saying whoever had stolen his money should return it.
But the waiter could hear none of it and insisted that he clears his Sh200 bill 200. There was no way was her salary getting deducted to foot it, she said.
Moments later, police officers arrived at the bar and found a naked man a talking to journalists and sought to know what had happened.
He narrated how the waiters, together with the owner of the club, colluded to steal his money, a claim they vehemently denied.
“Afande nimeibiwa kwa hii bar na siwezi vaa nguo mpaka hao wenye wanauza hapa watoe pesa zangu (waiters in this bar have stolen my money and I’m not dressing up till they return it),” he cried.
But James Mwangi, a waiter at the club, denied the allegations saying he found the man drinking when he took over from his colleagues in the morning.
“He stripped naked when we snatched his shoes in exchange for the money owed, but he hid the receipt and refused having taken the beer,” said Maina.
The man, who identified himself as Wycliffe Wachuli, claimed that he was a military officer on leave based at Kahawa Barracks in Nairobi.
Angry crowd
He demanded that the waiters produce his Identity Card, mobile phone and employment identity card, which he claimed had been forcefully taken from him. He told the police that he was on leave and had alighted in the town to entertain himself before proceeding to his rural home in Kakamega.
Officers pleaded with him to put on his clothes in vain.
Instead, he stormed out of the club and walked along the busy Eldoret-Uganda road towards the police station, making confused members of the public to run in different directions.
But an angry crowd stormed the police station baying for the man’s blood. They wanted to teach him a lesson for undressing in public, forcing officers to whisk him to a secret room.
Two barmaids recorded statements in connection with the incident.
