KOROGOCHO YOUTHS TERORIZE KARUA CAMPAIGN

The experience I had in Korogocho yesterday speaks volumes of the poverty affecting half of Kenyans. Although our campaign had had two successful events, our third stop was interrupted by a group of rowdy youths who demanded we give them money. It is easy to dismiss these young people as thugs, but it is important that we seriously address the issue of poverty and the exploitation of politicians that drives many of them to such acts.

There is a larger issue of the culture of self interest and self aggrandizement in Kenya that has neglected the plight of the poor. The recent parliamentary award of hefty retirement packages, is a good example of this destructive culture. It not only burdens the tax payer but it is totally insensitive at a time a majority of Kenyans cannot afford a decent meal every day!

This culture is encroaching on the political discourse and denying Kenyans a real discussion on the issues facing us and the real leadership we need to resolve these issues.

I am running to be the 4th President of Kenya to decisively address this and other issues that are facing us as a country.
