Othaya - President Mwai Kibaki on Sunday showed his preferred candidate to succeed him as Othaya parliamentarian come March 4.
He endorsed Gichuki Migambi who has been the chairman of Othaya Development Association (ODA), a group that is responsible for development projects in the area which he has led for a decade now.
During his two-day tour Kibaki was inspecting development projects ongoing in his constituency as he closes to his retirement.
The endorsement has caused stir among TNA candidate Mary Wambui supporters who were calling upon the president to stay mum and not to show his preference among all aspirants.
Wambui was the main campaigner of Kibaki’s bid for the time he has been representing the area in parliament.
She has also been much helpful to constituents at grassroots by helping them in many ways thereby her name became a household figure.
Mugambi was contesting on a TNA ticket and Jimmy Kibaki was the campaigner but they were defeated in the nominations by a slight margin of less than 2,000 votes.
He later defected to Sabasaba Asili party terming the nomination exercise as poorly conducted and were blighted with irregularities.
Kibaki said Mugambi has done good job in the area and deserves to continue for he is development conscious.
Jimmy Kibaki has been criss-crossing the constituency hunting votes for Mugambi was once condemned for drawing president’s name in the area politics but it was proved over the weekend.
He will face it out in the ballot box with a Nairobi lawyer Peter King’ara of GNU, Mary Wambui of TNA among others.
