SECURITY ALERT.. LETS HELP POLICE PREVENT CRIME

For almost four months now, a crime trend has emerged in Nairobi where criminals have been using motorbikes to commit crime. These robbers have been reported to use two motorcycles whilst posing as delivery men. Two common tactics they use is pretending the bike has a mechanical breakdown, or approaching a potential victim to ‘ask for directions.’ At this point, a second bike with
armed robbers
rides up and a victim is robbed.

These motorbike robbers have been reported in Kilimani, Lavington, Ngong Road, Kileleshwa and Karen. Most of the attacks have however been within Kilimani. The gangsters have also been responsible for murders and robberies on Thika Road and Mombasa Road and have not been caught.

Given the ‘success’ of this form of crime, copy cat gangsters are likely to emerge. Already, similar trends have been recorded in Mombasa, Kakamega and Eldoret). It is important to beware and take caution. Most of such attacks have been reported after dusk. Guard against becoming victim.

You are advised:

While driving after dusk, roll up your windows.
Lock your car doors.
Beware when you approach a broken-down bike (or car). Do not stop to offer help. Should you find a motorist (or motor cycle rider), report the location to the police. It may look selfish not to offer help but it is better safe than sorry.
If accosted, do not resist. Material possessions could be replaced while you cannot.
